The association has represented the needs of shipowners in industrial and labor market policies both nationally and internationally since 1917. The Finnish shipowners are in the forefront of technology and environmental innovations and are strongly part of developing solutions for sustainable shipping.<\/p>\n<h4>Focuses of the operation:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Industry and Maritime Policy<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Labour Market Policy<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Environment and Responsibility<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Functional and Efficient Infrastructure<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Security and Preparedness<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Availability, Competence and Well-being <\/strong><strong>of Workforce<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Finnish Shipowners\u2019 Association safeguards the competitiveness and operating conditions of the shipping industry through proactive influencing, both nationally and internationally. Our international parent organization on a European level is European Community Shipowners Associations (ECSA). On the global level, our parent organizations are International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) of the UN.<\/p>\n<p>ECSA \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ecsa.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">http:\/\/www.ecsa.eu\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>ISC <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ics-shipping.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">http:\/\/www.ics-shipping.org\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is the global maritime agency of the UN that regulates international seafaring. The Finnish Shipowners&#8217; Association actively takes part in the work of IMO and brings forward the needs and interests of Finnish seafaring in regulatory preparation.<\/p>\n<p>IMO <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imo.org\/en\/Pages\/Default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">http:\/\/www.imo.org\/en\/Pages\/Default.aspx<\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Background<\/h4>\n<p>The history of the association dates back to 1917 when Merenkulkuliitto (\u201cMaritime Confederation\u201d) was founded. Merenkulkuliitto is a maritime organisation that operated until 1932. Its operations were carried on by Suomen Laivanvarustajain yhdistys (\u201cFinnish Shipping Association\u201d), that was later renamed Suomen Varustamoyhdistys (\u201cFinnish Shipowners\u2019 Association\u201d).<\/p>\n<p>In \u00c5land, the association operated under the name \u00c5lands Redarf\u00f6rening (\u201c\u00c5land\u2019s Shipowners\u2019 Association\u201d). In 2008, Suomen Varustamo-yhdistys, \u00c5lands Redarf\u00f6rening and Rahtialusyhdistys (\u201cCargoship Association\u201d), founded in 1986, formed the current Finnish Shipowners\u2019 Association.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Finnish Shipowners\u2019 Association has 23 member companies from different shipping sectors.
