F\u00f6rslaget om ibruktagandet av EEDI, som utarbetats av IMO, godk\u00e4ndes i juli 2011 g\u00e4llande oljetankrar, gastankrar, bulkers, containerfartyg, torrlastfartyg (general -cargo), combi-carriers samt avkylningsfartyg. Indexet blev obligatoriskt f\u00f6r dessa fartyg i b\u00f6rjan av 2013.\u00a0 Energieffektivitetsindexet f\u00f6r roro- och ropaxfartygen som allm\u00e4nt trafikerar i n\u00e4rsj\u00f6farten godk\u00e4ndes av IMO f\u00f6rst i maj 2013 och tr\u00e4dde i kraft f\u00f6r dessa fartyg i september 2015.<\/p>\n<p>P\u00e5 MEPC 72-m\u00f6tet \u00e5r 2018 var EEDI-\u00e4rendet \u00e5ter uppe p\u00e5 agendan. F\u00f6r\u00e4ndringarna genom vilka EEDIs referenslinjer f\u00f6r roro- och ropaxfartygen h\u00f6js med 20 %, slutf\u00f6rdes. P\u00e5 m\u00f6tet beslutades ocks\u00e5, enligt IACSs f\u00f6rslag, att de \u00e4ndrade referenslinjerna till\u00e4mpas f\u00f6r EEDIs fas 2, allts\u00e5 fr\u00e5n och med 1.1.2020. Dessutom beslutades att enligt Sydkoreas f\u00f6rslag f\u00f6rbereda resolutionen om referenslinjerna i vilken avtalsparterna i bilaga VI i MARPOL sporras, att t\u00e4nka igenom att till\u00e4mpa de \u00e4ndrade referenslinjerna redan innan de tr\u00e4der i kraft internationellt.
