What kind of work is done in shipping?

Working days at sea are never the same. For example, you can work with:

  1. As a captain who steers a ship through the seas of the world and is responsible for both the ship and its cargo as well as everyone on board.
  2. As a chief engineer or watch engineer who is responsible for the ship’s technical systems and ensures that everything works flawlessly. Among other things, they supervise the operation of machinery, maintain and repair equipment, and are responsible for energy production on board.
  3. As a deck watchman who assists the deck officer, participates in watchkeeping and cargo handling, as well as ship maintenance in the deck department.
  4. As a ship electrician who takes care of the operation of the ship’s electrical systems and carries out necessary repair and maintenance work.
  5. As a repairman responsible for the maintenance and repair of various equipment and systems on board. This work often requires diverse technical skills.
  6. As a deck officer who acts as the captain’s right-hand man and is responsible, for example, for navigating the ship and handling the cargo safely during his watch.
  7. As a cruise host or hostess who takes care of the comfort and safety of passengers. This includes customer service, organizing various activities and problem solving.
  8. Customer service, where passengers are provided with information, assistance and guidance during their journey.
  9. As a chef who is responsible for preparing food in the ship’s galley, as well as catering for the crew and passengers.
