Vessel traffic situation

The Baltic Sea is a significant route for Finland’s export and import as 80-90% of goods are transported by sea. The Baltic Sea is one of the heavily trafficked sea areas in the world, accounting for up to 15% of the global sea transportation.

According to HELCOM (Baltic Marine Environment Protection Commission – Helsinki Commission) there are about 2000 vessels in the Baltic Sea area at any given time.  Each month 3500-5500 vessels sail in the area.
