Safe and responsible seafaring is a prerequisite for shipping of high quality. The aim of the Finnish Shipowners’ Association is to develop the safety and technology of sea traffic. We operate in cooperation with the Finnish transport and communications agency (www.traficom.fi/ ) and Ministry of transport and communication (LVM http://lvm.fi). Internationally we represent the interests of the shipowners in safety and technology issues through the International Maritime Organization (IMO http://www.imo.org), but also via EU-directives. The maritime safety legislation of Finland is based on IMO and EU -legislation and the ship safety is controlled by the Finnish transport safety agency. The Finnish Shipowners’ Association participates in the preparation of laws regarding seafaring at all levels and is a part of the Finnish committee in IMO’s meetings.
