Safety

Safe and responsible shipping is a prerequisite for high-quality shipping operations. The aim of the Finnish Shipowners’ Association is to develop maritime safety and technology. Finland’s maritime safety legislation is based on IMO and EU legislation, and vessel safety is supervised in Finland by the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency (Traficom) with the assistance of classification societies.

The Finnish Shipowners’ Association monitors the development of maritime safety regulations and influences their content through their own umbrella organizations ECSA (European Community Shipowners’ Associations ECSA) and ICS (International Chamber of Shipping ICS) and by participating in Traficom (Traficom) and the Ministry of Transport and Communications (lvm) for the preparation of legislation. The Finnish Shipowners’ Association participates at all levels in the preparation of maritime legislation and is part of the Finnish delegation at IMO meetings.
